Panel Edit

Panel Edit is the technical portion of Midi Quest's Editors. It is with these functions that an editor (eg. Yamaha DX7 Voice editor) is programmed or modified both in defining how an editor appears as well as sending the necessary MIDI commands to edit the instrument.

To place an Editor in Panel Edit mode, the editor must be opened as a separate window and choose Editor/Panel Edit from the menus. For the editor to be in a "separate window", you must have created the editor by loading an appropriate SysEx file from disk or loaded the SysEx directly from the instrument. If you are viewing the editor from a split window in a Set, Collection, or Bank Window then the option is disabled.

To create a new panel, open the Instrument Creator Window and select the component driver that you are creating the editor for. In the "Defn" field enter a path and file name for the new editor. The instrument path is automatically prepended to this entry so, for example, if you are creating an M1 Patch editor and all of your files are stored in "M1" in the instrument folder then you would enter the name "M1/Patch.sqt". You can look at any existing component drivers for further examples. Regardless of your system, Midi Quest expects the folder divider to be a "/" character. The program automatically replaces this with the appropriate character. Load SysEx to edit and Midi Quest will fail to find the editor you have specified. It will then create a new editor. Place the editor in Panel Edit mode and you can begin the process of building your panel.

Midi Quest editors are created using "controls". Every element that appears on the screen is considered a control whether it is used to display a heading, draw a background, or represent and instrument parameter as a knob or slider.

The following section of the manual will provide extended information on how the Panel Editor works and all of its features. In addition, the version of software you own will determine how much of the Panel Editor's facilities you can access.
