This command opens a dialog which you use to install instruments from Sound Quest's Web site into the program. It allows you to easily access and install new or updated instrument modules. After selecting the instruments, Midi Quest installs the instrument from the web site and attempts to automatically determine which MIDI port the instrument is connected to and what channel it is using to communicate SysEx on. Windows note: on Windows, two anti-virus applications are known to interfere with instrument installation regardless of whether they are downloaded from the internet or installed from disk. The software must be disabled for instrument module installation to work. The three applications are: McAfee anti-virus software, and Webroot. For Webroot, apparently shutting down the software is insufficient. All Webroot processes must be shut down before installing. Macintosh note: on the Macintosh, one anti-virus application is known to interfere with instrument installation regardless of whether they are downloaded from the internet or installed from disk. The software must be disabled for instrument module installation to work. The application is: DeepGuard.
Directions: To install additional instruments into Midi Quest:
Installing Midi Quest one Instrument Authorization EditorSQ.bin Files For Midi Quest one only. When the Web Install/Update dialog appears, the EditorSQ.v13.????.bin files attached to your purchase confirmation email must first be dragged and dropped or copied to the computer's desktop. Once on the computer desktop, drag and drop the file(s) on to the Web Install/Update dialog. This will install the instrument specific license(s) for Midi Quest one and display only the specific instrument module(s) to be installed. For a small number of Mac users, it has been reported that this copy process doesn't occur. If the instrument list doesn't reduce to just the purchased instrument modules, indicating that the files weren't successfully installed, they can be manually copied to the correct location on the Mac hard drive. To do this: 1/ Save the EditorSQ.zip file from the email to the desktop (If there was no EditorSQ.zip file attached to the email, please contact Sound Quest) 2/ Double click on EditorSQ.zip to extract the contents of the zip file 3/ Open a Finder window 4/ Go to the following location on the hard drive: Macintosh HD/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Sound Quest/MidiQuestone/v13/Instruments This location should already exist one your hard drive. If you can't find the "Library" folder on your hard drive, it is currently hidden. To display it, click "Go" in the Finder menu bar, hold down the "option" key. The Library option will now appear in the "Go" menu. Select it and continue moving through the folders. 5/ Once the Instruments folder is displayed, copy the EditorSQ.v13.????.bin files extracted from the zip file into the Instruments folder. 6/ If the Web Install/Update Instruments Dialog is currently displayed, press the "Cancel" button and repeat the instructions above to redisplay the dialog. The dialog should now list only the authorized instrument modules.
The Web Install/Update Instruments Dialog

Add to Studio when checked, the selected instrument modules are installed and then automatically added to the Studio window. This is preferable when installing new instruments. When unchecked, the modules are install but the instrument is not added to the studio. This option is suitable when the instrument module is already listed in the studio and you are just installing an update. Warning: Midi Quest supports a range of instruments (including the MODX+ series) that have the character "+" in the name. Unfortunately, a number of Apple tools that are required to create Midi Quest distributable files have bugs that do not allow the use of "+" in the file name. As a result, it has been necessary to use the characters "pl" in place of the "+". When selecting instruments, select "Waldorf Qpl" for "Waldorf Q+", and so on.... note 2: There will be a number of instrument modules with names ending in "ov". "ov" is a designation for "old version". These are instrument modules which have been replaced by an updated version which provides additional features but is not identical at a SysEx level. The older version is retained so that SysEx previously stored in Midi Quest can be accessed and edited.
