Midi Quest Pro only The Instrument Editor portion of the Instrument Creator Window is used to build each instrument from its component drivers and define as many different sets as required by the instrument. All of the information entered in the Instrument Editor is stored in the instrument's .ini file in the INSTR folder. The .ini files are text files so they can also be modified with a text editor. The Instrument Editor is displayed when the instrument name is selected from the instrument list in the left hand side of the window. The editor is divided into four sections: Directory, Drivers, Sets, and Set Members Directory The Directory section is the upper left. It specifies the Name of the instrument, the Folder where the instrument's files are stored, the Bitmap to display in Studio window while in graphic display mode, and the Icon to use while in tree display mode
Drivers The Drivers section lists the drivers used by the instrument. The driver order determines the display order in the Studio Window. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the order of the Drivers. Use the Del key to remove the selected Driver To add a Driver, enter the Driver name in the text entry area and press the Add button To rename a Driver, select the Driver to rename, enter a new name in the text entry area and press the Rename button You should have a driver in the list for each different type of SysEx dump that the instrument is capable of sending. Each Driver will be defined by the Driver Creator section of the Instrument Creator Window.
Sets The Sets section lists the different defined sets for the instrument. A Set typically defines the instrument permanent memory areas and is used when creating a Set Window. Since it is possible for an instrument to have various hardware configurations by adding RAM cards or ROM chips, it is also possible to create multiple Sets to reflect these variations. As you can see in the Default Set for the 01/W displayed above, the Set is made up of the Combination bank, Patch bank, Drums, and Global SysEx. This represents the various permanent memory storage areas (the sequencer SysEx could arguably also be included here but most people using computer software also do their sequencing on the computer so they don't use the onboard sequencer) Sets are fully flexible so if you never change the drum or Global SysEx in your instrument, you could create a new set which just included the Combi Bank and the Patch Bank. This would save storage space and reduce upload and download times. The order of the Sets as listed here is the same order in which they will be displayed in the Studio Window. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the order of the Sets To create a new Set, enter the Set's name in the text entry line and press the Add button To delete a Set, select the Set in the list and press the Delete button To rename a Set, select the Set to rename, enter a new name in the text entry area and press the Rename button Set Members The Set members section is where you define a set. If a Set is not selected in the Set list, this section is disabled. To enable the section either select an existing Set or create a new Set and select it. To define the Set's members, simply click on the driver which loads the appropriate SysEx. To remove a member, click on it again so that the entry is no longer highlighted. Available in:
