Purpose: This menu item switches the display between raw SysEx and formatted SysEx data. By default, the SysEx View shows raw information including the header and tail information for that SysEx. An example of this would be the Korg 01/w Program displayed below where all of the SysEx is displayed exactly as it was received from the instrument:
When how Formatted SysEx is chosen from the menus, the display changes to a formatted layout as shown here: This view can be particularly helpful when attempting to review SysEx that has difficult to read storage formats such as those for some Alesis, Ensoniq, Kurzweil, and Yamaha equipment. The storage format used by Korg, while not standard, is still relatively easy to read and provides a good point of comparison. In the first image, the name shows a space between the "B" and "el" of "Bell" in the first line of SysEx. When viewed as formatted data, the patch name appears as it does on the instrument display. You will also see some 8 bit data values as the instrument uses an 8-bit rather than a 7-bit storage format internally. The formatted view works best when the stored data is a single SysEx dump such as a patch, combi, performance or some other single type of data. For a Midi Quest data file which contains multiple SysEx dumps, particularly banks, the display will not be as clear but may still be beneficial when compared with viewing the raw SysEx. The SysEx data can't be edited while displayed as formatted data. Default: Show Raw SysEx
