Purpose: Fast Tips are available for most instrument modules. They are used to provide device specific information on how to set up an instrument to receive and transmit SysEx as well as provide special information, warnings, and tricks which are relevant to that instrument. The file will often include information on:
Midi Quest supports storage and display of this information using a number of different file formats including .rtf, .pdf, and .txt. At present, Sound Quest uses .rtf for the creation of all Fast Tips. As a result, the information will be displayed using whatever application is currently assigned to display .rtf files and provides cross-platform compatibility. Remember, these files have full write capability so custom comments, notes and reminders can be added for future reference. However, if modifications or enhancements are made, a backup should be maintained since a re-install of the instrument module will overwrite the modified Fast Tips. Macintosh note: it is possible to set the TextEdit application to display .rtf files as "text only". If Fast Tips files are being displayed as "gibberish", open TextEdit's Preferences, click the "Open and Save" tab and uncheck the option "Display RTF files as RTF code instead of formatted text". This will correct the problem.
