These options control the display and operation of the parameter editor windows. Right Mouse Button Audition (RMB) RMB controls the type of MIDI events generated by Right Mouse Button clicks in an Editor. `Note' generates a single note. Its pitch is determined by the mouse's horizontal screen position. Its velocity is determined by the mouse's vertical screen position. If `Chord' or `Sequence' are selected, the chord or sequence set in the Tones Window is played. Default: Note
Std Mouse Editing This parameter controls whether grab and drop mouse editing operates in a left/right or up/down direction. When using multi-touch with a multi-touch display in Windows, this parameter is automatically set to up/down. Knobs feature a dual operating mode. When the parameter range of the parameter that the knob is controlling is 256 or less then editing is based on the motion of the mouse, either up/down or left/right (relative editing). If the range of the parameter is greater than 256 then editing is adjusted so that the new value is assigned based on where the mouse is located within the area of the knob instead of the amount of motion (absolute value editing). This allows knobs to edit parameters with very large ranges in a usable way. Default: up/down Sensitivity determines how quickly parameter values change in relation to mouse movement while editing. The range is 1 - 4 with 1 being the most sensitive and 4 being the least sensitive. Default: 2
Knob Mouse Editing This parameter controls the type of input control to use with knobs. There are two options: the standard mouse editing direction and "rotary", where the mouse is dragged around the object in a rotary fashion to set the value. Default: rotary
Fader Lock to Mouse This parameter controls the behavior of the fader style graphic sliders. There are three options: Always On, Always Off, and Use Editor. When set to Always On, the slider will follow the precise location of the mouse when clicked in the control. When set to Always Off, the slider will always use the original slider behavior. When set to Use Editor, each slider control will behave as configured in the individual control. The "original slider behavior" is defined as follows. Clicking to the left or below the drag bar reduces the parameter's value by a single increment. Clicking to the right or above the drag bar increase the parameter's value to a single increment. Click and drag the bar to select a new value with the mouse. As always, the control's value can also be set by directly entering an alpha numeric value or using the '<' and '>' computer keys to decrement and increment the parameter's value. Default: Always On
Show Selected Controls When checked, controls which are currently selected are displayed with a green frame and the active input control is framed in red. When unchecked, selected controls are not highlighted. Default: checked
Display Parameter Help When checked, placing the the mouse over a control will display it's help information in the status bar at the bottom of Midi Quest. Default: checked
Activate On Mouse Over When checked, moving the mouse over a control will automatically activate it for input. When this feature is used in conjunction with a mouse wheel, it is possible to quickly edit parameters without clicking any mouse buttons. Default: checked
Auto Menu When checked, clicking on a string list will immediately display the options in a popup menu (or dialog for a large number of options). If the parameter is a numeric value with less than 20 items, it will also be displayed as a popup menu. When this option is unchecked, numeric and string list parameters are edited by dragging the mouse left/right or up/down depending on the setting of the "Std Mouse Editing" option. If the string list has a drop caret, then clicking on the caret will display the list of items in a popup menu. Default: checked
Pop Up info for is used to determine when a pop up box is displayed to show the parameters numeric or equivalent value while being edited. This parameter is particularly important for controls which display their value in a purely graphic fashion (knobs and sliders) as it allows you to view a numeric equivalent. It also displays the name of the parameter being edited. Below is an example of the pop up info. As the slider is dragged, the numeric equivalent is automatically updated. Pop Up info has four possible settings: none, knobs and sliders, All controls, and All Controls in Status Bar. Each mode operates as follows: None - there is no pop up displayed Knobs and Sliders - pop-up info is displayed for only knob and slider controls All Controls - pop-up info is displayed for all single parameter controls All Controls in Status Bar - is identical to All Controls except that the information is displayed in the Status Bar at the bottom of the application (Windows only) When performing multi-touch editing with a multi-touch display in Windows, this parameter is automatically set to "All Controls in Status Bar" if the current setting is either "Knobs and Sliders" or "All Controls". Default: All Controls
Play After Edit Play After Edit, when checked, causes a test note, chord or sequence (as determined by the RMB setting) to be played after each change made in an Editor. This function is useful if you wish to hear the change in should after each minor change is made and you are not playing a standard MIDI file. Default: Off
Touch Screen Editing Window only When checked, enables support for multi-touch touch screen editing. Move multiple sliders or other parameters in an editor simultaneously. Default: Off
Left Handed Touch Windows only When checked, pop-up information is positionally adjusted for left-handed instead of right-handed touch usage. Default: Off
Invert Scroll Wheel Input This option controls the polarity of the scroll wheel. Normally, selecting a control and moving the scroll wheel towards yourself will reduce the parameter's value. Scrolling away increases the value. When this option is checked, the scroll effect is reversed and scrolling towards yourself increases the parameter value and scrolling away reduces it. Default: Off
Edit Child in Multi Buffer Check this option to have Midi Quest default to editing patches in Multi/Performance mode instead of patch mode. There are a limited number of instruments which offer this option, but for those that do, this option will apply. For more information, click here. Default: Off
Store In Options This option handles how edited patches in a Set are stored back in their respective banks. When editing a patch from a bank, you can always store the patch back into the bank manually. However, if you select another patch in a bank to edit, this option setting determines how the patch currently being edited is stored. There are 3 options: Manual Store, Automatically Store to Original Location, and Automatically Discard Edits. When "Manual Store" is selected, choosing a new patch to edit will cause a dialog to be displayed so that the patch currently being edited can be stored in a bank location. The default storage location will be the location where the patch was originally located however a new location can be chosen. "Automatically Store to Original Location" causes the edited patch to be automatically stored back to its original location. This overwrites the patch currently located in this location in the bank. "Automatically Discard Edits" causes the edited patch to be overwritten with the newly selected patch. There is no save dialog displayed or opportunity to save the changes. They are simply discarded. Default: Manual Store
Update Patch On Activate The Update Patch on Activate function controls whether the patch is automatically sent to the instrument when its window is activated or not. Off: the patch is not automatically sent to the instrument when the window is activated. To update the instrument with the entire patch, the patch must be sent manually. This is useful if the patch takes a long time to download and you are only editing one patch at a time. On: easily work on different patches from the same instrument. As you move from editor to editor, the program automatically sends the patch to the instrument so you can hear the effects of your editing. This keeps the instrument "in sync" with the editor Custom: The default is "On" but for each individual SysEx type, this option can be turned off. This provides the option of being selective about which patches are automatically sent and which are not. Default: On
Smart Controller # This parameter allows you to use a single continuous controller to edit all of the parameters in each of your instrument editors. Select a continuous controller number (0 - 121) and input from that controller will automatically be used to edit the currently selected parameter. You can use your mouse to activate parameters and a controller to edit the value. -1 = off Default: -1 (off)
Patch Randomize This parameter sets the level of randomization use by the Editor's Constrained Randomize function. Default: 100%
Window Scaling This parameter is used to make editor windows larger by a selected percentage. It allows sizing to be adjusted if the default size is too small. Changing this parameter doesn't change the scaling of windows which are already open. Default: 100%
Use Scaling with Plug-ins This button is only displayed in Midi Quest Pro when running the stand alone version. It is used to assign a scaling factor to instrument modules so that when an editor is opened in a plug-in, it is displayed with the appropriate selected scaling factor. To scale editors withing a plug-in, open Preferences, select the Patch Edit tab, set Window Scaling to the scaling you want to use, then press the "Use Scaling with Plugins" button. All of the instrument modules loaded in the Studio window will be assign the selected scaling factor. The assignment takes effect the next time the DAW is run and a plug-in created. If the DAW is already running, in most cases it will need to be shut down and restarted.
Grid Midi Quest Pro only There are three Grid parameters which are used in conjunction with the Panel Edit mode. When Panel Edit mode is enabled, the position of controls can be controlled by the the two grid parameters, Grid W and Grid H. If Grid Default is checked, and Grid W is set to "2" and Grid "H" is set to "3" then when a control is moved, its horizontal position is limited to multiples of 2 (eg 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 etc) and its vertical position is limited to multiples of 3 (eg 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, etc). Defaults: Grid Default=off, Grid W=1, Grid H=1
