Integrated Help

The Windows version of Midi Quest includes an extensive, context sensitive integrated help. With its direct links into the software, it should be the first resource you turn to for answers to your questions.

The help file contains general information on each of the windows in Midi Quest as well as specific information on each of the functions for the window. This information includes: why and when you would use the function, step-by-step instructions on how to use the function, and graphic examples.

If you would like general information on a specific window, open that window in Midi Quest and press the Help "?" button on the icon bar. Midi Quest will open the help file and automatically go to the correct page.

If you would like specific information on a particular function in the menus or window icon bar, point to the item with the mouse and press F1. Again, Midi Quest will automatically jump to the correct location in the help file so you can read about the selected function.

You can also open the help file by choosing Help/Contents. Nothing could be easier.

Video Help

Sound Quest has an extensive collection of video tutorials online and available for viewing. These videos range from short tutorials to in-depth coverage of all of the options available in Midi Quest.

Before watching these videos there are two important factors to be aware of. These were never intended to be promotional videos. They are long, in-depth, and not very exciting but if you want to watch someone work through all of Midi Quest's extremely wide range of functionality, nothing beats them. The current video collection, as of November 2016, is now getting old and all have been created with previous versions of Midi Quest. The appearance of the editor is somewhat different from the current release and while the way the program functions "under the hood" has undergone radical improvements, you will find that the basic layout of where functions are found and how the program operates remains basically the same.

While there are plans to create new videos, there are currently no plans to replace these very long videos which attempt to cover virtually every aspect of Midi Quest's operation. So, if you are willing to accept some of the weaknesses in the videos, you will find that they also have a lot to offer and they provide excellent and easy to absorb coverage of the features and functionality of Midi Quest.

PDF Manual

Midi Quest includes a PDF manual. The manual can be opened directly from the programs Help (Windows) or Options (Macintosh) menus. The PDF manual contains the same information as the integrated and online help but is better suited to being printed.

Via Email

Sound Quest provides technical support for its products via the Internet. Using the Internet, you can email any technical support questions to midiquestsupport@squest.com. Support for UniQuest OEM software is provided directly from instrument manufacturers.

Requesting Support

If you request support either via the support board or email the following information is required to assist you. Without it, there is little support that we can provide. This information is particularly important the first time you contact us.

Instrument Communication Issues

If you are having issues with a specific instrument, please include the following information:

Instrument manufacturer and name (eg. Yamaha MODX)
MIDI interface (or indicate "direct USB connection")
Instrument firmware version if known

Please describe the issue with the instrument such as "unable to load SysEx from instrument" or "unable to send SysEx to instrument".
Indicate whether you have read the Fast Tips for the instrument module or not
If possible, indicate what you have done to try and remedy the situation

Before contacting Sound Quest, you should review the Midi Quest and MIDI Communications and Midi Quest and MIDI Interfaces sections of the manual. Also, ensure that you are using the latest MIDI drivers and the latest firmware for your MIDI interface.

Often the activity in the Monitor window can provide us with critical information. If there is a small amount of activity in the window, a screen shot will often suffice. If there is a lot of activity, the contents of the window can be copied to the clipboard and pasted into an email or into a separate text file and sent as an attachment. This information is frequently critical in determining what the problem is.

Please note that providing the MIDI interface information is critical. The most frequent communication issues we encounter are a result of the MIDI interface not handling SysEx correctly. Along with MIDI interface driver issues, we have seen a large range of other problems over the years including, but not limited to: bad MIDI cable(s), incorrectly connected MIDI cables, instrument firmware bugs, incorrectly configured instruments so the don't respond to SysEx, and bad MIDI hardware (very rare). Sound Quest can usually determine what the problem is but it may time some time and testing to be certain.

Other Midi Quest Issues

If you are having a problem with Midi Quest other than a communication issue, please describe the problem as clearly as possible, including the type of window you are working in: Set, Bank, Editor, Library, Collection, and so on. If you can provide a screen shot displaying the issue, this can be very helpful in providing a speedy solution.
