Purpose:

The Extended Parameter Selector Dialog is a special pop-up selector. Some parameters are displayed as text. For instance, the waveform for an LFO will be one of: triangle, saw up, saw down, random, or sine. To change the value of the LFO, you can click and drag, or double click on the current value and use the above dialog to select a new value. Each option you click on is automatically sent to the instrument so that you can try a number of different options before selecting one.

The Extended Parameter Selector is a special version of the Parameter Selector. This version includes filters which can be used to reduce the number of displayed values to concentrate on the most appropriate options. This dialog is currently used by only a small number of editors and is usually associated with the selection of wave samples in a sound/patch type editor or selecting patches in a multi/performance type editor.

The above example comes from the MODX editor where each sample has two associated type descriptors. The two columns on the left are used to select the type of information to search for and the right section displays the options that match the selected criteria. Selecting "---" means that no filter is applied and all of the options are available. Selecting an entry in the upper left column displays the available sub options for that entry in the lower column to further refine the displayed options to choose from.

In the example above, "Keys" is selected with "---". The result is that all samples that are tagged with the "keys" descriptor are displayed. Selecting "Rd", "Wr", or on of the options would result in only samples matching both tags being displayed.

In addition, the "Filter" can always be applied to further reduce the number of options. If a filter is added, only those items which match the filter text are displayed in the list.

Double click on the new value or press the OK button to accept the new value. Press the Cancel button to return to the original value. This window is ideal for viewing and editing parameters with a wide range of text values.
