Automation Manager (Editor Window)
The Automation Manager allows you to, on an instrument by instrument basis, select the parameters that are available for automation and determine the order in which they are displayed in VST2, AAX, and AU. (For VST3, all parameters are always available for automation)
For instruments where the Automation Manager has not been used to create an Automation List, when working in VST 2, AU, or AAX, all of the controls in the editors will be available for automation. When an Automation List is created for an instrument, only the parameters included in that list are automatable. The list of automated parameters can be derived from any of the editors in the Set and they can be in any order you choose. However, if you are automating in VST2, you will need to maintain the order you choose in order for automation to continue to work correctly.
The Automation Manager can only be accessed from within a Set window but is available from any parameter editor in the Set.
note 1: Due to a different design, all VST3 automatable parameters are always available and active even for instruments with an extremely large number of parameters such as the Korg Kronos.
note 2: It is possible for an extremely large number of automation parameters to overload a host and crash it. It a result, any instrument with more than 7500 automatable parameters, such as the Korg Kronos, must specify the list of parameters which are available for automation in the host. If no parameters are specified, the plug-in will not automation any parameters. The exception as noted above is VST3.
Automation Manager Dialog
The Automation Manager dialog is used to manage the parameter automation list for an instrument. As already stated, this list gives you control over which parameters are made available for automation and the order in which the parameters are displayed in VST, AAX, and AU.
To add parameters to the list, choose the editor that contains the parameters to include. Use Midi Quest's extended selection options to select the controls to automate and choose Editor / Automation / Add Selected Controls to Automation List from the menus. This will add the selected controls to the automation list. You can follow these steps to add as many controls as you wish from as many different editors in the Set as you wish.
When finished adding controls, choose Editor / Automation / Automation Manager... to open the Automation Manager. A list of all of the automatable controls is displayed. Select the controls and use the buttons to order the list as desired. Press the OK button to accept the changes.
Remove - remove the selected control from the automation list
Remove All - remove all controls from the automation list
Up - move the selected control up one position in the automation list
Down - move the selected control down one position in the automation list
Top - move the selected control to the top of the automation list
Bottom - move the selected control to the bottom of the automation list
Directions:
To manage the parameters which automated in a Midi Quest VST or AU Plug-in:
| 1. | Open a Set for the instrument requiring the Automation Manager |
| 2. | If controls have already been added to the automation list, and you simply need to manage the list choose Editor / Automation / Automation Manager... |
| 3. | Otherwise, add controls by selecting them in the editor and choose Editor / Automation / Add Selected Controls to Automation List then open the Automation Manager |
| 4. | Use the Automation Manager to order the list as desired and press the OK button to save the changes. |
