While not recommended, it is possible to assign a custom location for the storage of Midi Quest data files. Only attempt this if you have a thorough understanding of how your computer, operating system, and Regedit.exe work.
Windows In the main Midi Quest install folder there is a file, Preferences.ini. Move this file to a location with read/write (instead of read only) permissions. Edit the text file and add the following block: [Preferences] Custom Data Path=1
Save the modified Preferences.ini file. Copy the Preferences.ini file back to its original location. Run Regedit.exe and go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Sound Quest\Midi Quest\13.0 depending on the version of Midi Quest. Double click on “Data Path(32)” to edit it and assign the path to the location you want the Midi Quest files located. Create that folder and move the current Midi Quest files to that location.
Macintosh For Macintosh, the instructions are different because the Preferences.ini file in the Midi Quest bundle can't be modified as this will break the digital signature. 1/ Go to the location where data is stored by default for Midi Quest: ~/Documents/Sound Quest/MidiQuest 2/ Create a raw ASCII text file called Preferences.ini 3/ copy the following text info the file: [Preferences] 4/ Save the file in the folder listed above 5/ Go to the following folder on your hard drive: ~/Library/Preferences 6/ Find the file "Sound Quest Preferences.ini" and double click to open it 7/ There will be a line "Data Path[32]=" followed by the default path to store Midi Quest files (if you have had previous versions of MQ, make sure you select the data path for MQ13) 8/ Enter the path you would like to use instead and save the file 9/ Move all of the sub folders from the default location where Midi Quest is storing data to the new location 10/ Run Midi Quest and it will use this location to store SysEx
