MQ Cubase Name Server Preferences (Options Menu)

This page defines Midi Quest's Cubase name server.

Midi Quest Pro only

Name Servers allow Midi Quest to keep your sequencer's name lists in sync with your equipment automatically.

How does this work? For Cubase, Midi Quest automatically updates the name scripts used by Cubase to access names. Just in case you use multiple versions of the same program, Midi Quest supports multiple installations so you can keep each version in sync.

Cubase Limitations: Currently Cubase does not actively read the script file on each application load. For Cubase to respond to changes made to the script files, it is necessary to manually read the script file into Cubase.

Configuring and Using the Cubase Name Server

To configure the Cubase Name Server:

1.check "Enable Cubase Name Server"
2.Press the "Add..." button and a folder selector will appear
3.Use the folder selector to find your Cubase installation
4.Within this installation should be a "Scripts" folder and inside that folder is a "patchnames" folder
5.Select either the "patchnames" folder itself or any sub folder of this folder
6.This is where the automatically generated script files will be stored
7.If you have multiple Cubase installations on your computer, repeat steps 2 through 6 for each installation (maximum 10)

That's all you have to do. Below is a configuration for Cubase SX and VST on a Windows 7 based computer

Once you have the server configured, you should send Sets from Midi Quest to each instrument to initialize the script files.

In Cubase SX, select "Devices/MIDI Device Manager" from the menus to display the following window...

In this Window, click on "Install Device" to display the following dialog...

Find an instrument whose Set you have sent. In this case, the 01/W. Press the OK button and it is added to Cubase's MIDI Devices list after optionally renaming it. Repeat the previous two steps to install support for each of your instruments.

The window will now appear as above. Click on any instrument to view the list of available patches in the lower section.

For each instrument, click on the drop down menu to the right of the instrument name (currently displayed as "Not Connected") and assign the instrument to a MIDI Port. Once you have your instruments loaded and configured, go to the project window.

PrpCub5

In the Project Window, for each MIDI track, click on the MIDI OUT port selector. A pop up menu will display the possible output destinations including your configured instruments (SY77 or 01/W in this case).

Specify a MIDI channel, it can not be set to "ANY" and then click on "prg" and the following pop up will be displayed so you can select a patch by name.
