MQ Assigning a Custom Data Path

While not recommended, it is possible to assign a custom location for the storage of Midi Quest data files. Only attempt this if you have a thorough understanding of how your computer, operating system, and Regedit.exe work.

In the main Midi Quest install folder there is a file, Preferences.ini. Move this file to a location with read/write (instead of read only) permissions. Edit the text file and add the following block:

[Preferences]

Custom Data Path=1

Save the modified Preferences.ini file.

Copy the Preferences.ini file back to its original location.

Run Regedit.exe and go to

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Sound Quest\Midi Quest\12.0
or
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Sound Quest\Midi Quest Pro\12.0

depending on the version of Midi Quest. Double click on “Data Path(32)” to edit it and assign the path to the location you want the Midi Quest files located.

Create that folder and move the current Midi Quest files to that location.
